The continued warm weather combined with virtually no wind are giving rise to a number of B/G sightings around the Bay. Dr. Boyer’s SUNY ESF team will be conducting their routine sampling and inspection tomorrow, October 4, at the designated 7 locations on the Bay. To supplement their efforts, samples collected by shore owners will also be tested for presence of B/G and levels of toxicity. These additional samples will assist the research team in identifying potential sources and patterns of outbreaks under the unique conditions we are experiencing this late in the season.
If you believe you have B/G on your shore area and are interested in submitting a sample for testing, please follow these procedures:
- Use a clean one liter/one quart bottle to collect the sample
- Affix a label with your name, phone #, email address and location of the sample (street address, etc.)
- An ice chest will be available at Katlynn Marine, 7448 New York 14 Sodus Point, for depositing the sample.
Samples must be deposited before noon tomorrow, October 4th.
Apologies for the very short notice, but it is an opportunity to assist the research team’s efforts.
