Comments

All samples collected on June 28th were analyzed for blue-green algal toxins using the protein phosphatase inhibition assay. Water quality was good. Traces of blue-green algae were present but no visible blooms were observed.

These samples showed minimal risk for microcystin toxins. Users are still encouraged to avoid contact with visible blooms as other irritants may be present.

1 Guideline for interpretation of the results
0.0-0.2 μg/L Little to no risk from
blue-green algal toxins: Minimal Risk.
0.2-1.0 μg/L Toxin detected but below
the WHO drinking water guidelines: Low Risk
1.0 – 10 μg/L Toxin levels are above the
drinking water guidelines but generally
below the limits for recreational contact: Moderate Risk
10-20 μg/L Toxin levels are significant and
approach the limit for recreational contact: High Risk
>20 μg/L Toxin levels exceed the NYS guidelines for
recreational contact. Users should avoid contact with the blooms.
